I'm Austin McNair. I read natal charts in a Hellenistic frame, layered with psychological and evolutionary threads, so the reading is faithful to the tradition and honest about the life it belongs to.
What I do
A chart is a map of the sky at a single moment, drawn for a single life. It is not a horoscope, and it is not a fortune. It is a set of relationships — luminaries, planets, signs, houses — that describe the terrain you were handed and the shape of the story that has been unfolding on top of it.
My work is to read that map back to you carefully. I sit with the chart. I look at what is anchored where, what the angles carry, what the sect light is doing, where the year is currently profecting to, and where the traditional planetary condition — domicile, exaltation, fall, detriment — is either underwriting or complicating the picture. Then I write.
The Three Layers
Old bones, modern voice, honest arc.
Every reading I write moves through the same three layers, in order. Each one answers a different question about the chart, and together they keep the reading grounded in tradition and useful in a real life.
Layer I
Hellenistic
The old bones. Whole-sign houses, sect, domicile and exaltation, planetary joys, time-lord techniques like annual profection. This is the structural read — the load-bearing walls of the chart.
Layer II
Psychological
How the structure feels from the inside. What the aspect patterns do to your nervous system, where the chart asks you to hide, where it asks you to be seen, and what a mature version of a hard placement can look like.
Layer III
Evolutionary
The direction of travel. What the chart is asking you to grow into — not as fate, but as the through-line your life keeps returning to. This is where the reading turns forward.
What a reading looks like
A written document, made for you.
Every reading I do is written down. It arrives as a private page on this site, unlocked with a passphrase I hand off to you personally. Nothing is indexed. Nothing is public. The reading is yours.
A natal chart roadmap runs several sections. It opens with your rising sign and its ruler — the front door of the chart. It moves through the luminaries (Sun and Moon), then the aspect patterns, then the placements that are working in your favor and the ones asking more of you. It closes with a direct address: what I'd want you to carry out of the reading if you carried nothing else.
I write in the second person, plainly, because a reading should sound like it's being said to you, not performed at you. When I use a term from the tradition — sect, profection, domicile, an angular house — it gets defined in place, so nothing depends on you already knowing the vocabulary.
A few honest notes
- I don't do prediction as a parlor trick. Time-lord techniques point at seasons and themes, not headlines.
- I don't read the 8th house as death. It's the house of shared resources, intimacy, and what changes you from the inside.
- I take the chart seriously and I take your life more seriously. If those two disagree, your life wins.
- I'll tell you what the chart says, including the hard parts, and I'll tell you when I'm not sure.
